OAA has awarded a total of $114,200 in scholarships to date!

 

Each year we intend to select at least one graduating senior from OHS and one graduating senior from OPHS to receive a scholarship. Students must apply and meet the criteria in order to be eligible.

OHS RECIPIENTS

   

                   Patricia Helen Matyas and James Cameron Lane

 

Patricia has been involved in the National Honor Society, the Model United Nations, the Interact Club, the OHS Band, the Student Council, the Key Club and the History National Honor Society. She also participated on the Osbourn Swim team for four years and received two coaches’ award during that time.  

Her community activities include the Urban Swim Team and being a Sunday School helper and student at Olivet Episcopal Church for the past 6 years.  In addition, she has worked at the Morganna Animal Clinic as a Kennel Assistant for almost 3 years.  

Patricia hopes to become a Sustainability Analyst or Specialist or an Urban Planner. She plans to attend the University of Virginia.  

 

Cameron is a member of the National Science Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society, of the Concussion Management Team as a student representative and a member of the Community Action Athletes.  He has been the Captain of several football teams at Osbourn, receiving honors such as MVP, a coaches’ award and as an All-District Honorable Mention Linebacker.

Cameron has been active with Osbourn’s Peer Mentoring Program at Round Elementary, as a volunteer and student partner with Special Olympics and with Ducks Unlimited, raising funds for wetlands preservation.  He has also been active in the youth group at Trinity Episcopal Church as a part of their service activities and fundraising efforts. 

Cameron plans to attend Lynchburg College with the goal of becoming a social studies teacher.  He also plans to play sports at college. 

 

OPHS RECIPIENTS

Amy Elizabeth Pearson and Madison Harlie Moore

 

Amy is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Advisory Council, the Future Business Leaders of America, the Key Club and the Math Honor Society.  She has also participated in Indoor Track, Varsity Soccer and Varsity Field Hockey.  

Amy’s community activities include participation in Operation Turkey, the Walk to End Alzheimers, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Girls on the Run, the Santa cop program and with the Red Cross as a blood donor.  She has served as a referee for the Prince William Soccer Referee Association, as an employee with the Shady Pond Horse Stables and at Splashdown Waterpark.  

Amy will be heading to Virginia Teach in the fall to major in Hospitality and Tourism Management.  

 

Madison is a member of the National Honor Society, Teachers for Tumor-Row, Educators Rising, Senior Buddy, and the Key Club.  She has played JV Soccer, Varsity Lacrosse and Varsity Field Hockey.  She has also served as a Preschool teacher for the Early Childhood Education program.

Madison’s community activities include participation in Colby’s Ride, the Santa’s Elf program, a Pen Pals program and with PWSI, which placed her in an elementary school as a volunteer.

Madison plans to continue to help people by pursuing a degree in early education or school counseling.
